Welcome to the website for the descendants of Benjamin Crum and Sarah Lanning. The couple were married in 1810 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Neshanic, Somerset County, New Jersey.

They were the parents of five known children: Eliza, Henry, Sarah, Deborah and Leonard born between 1810 and 1825. This couple had 21 known grandchildren who survived to adulthood. A number of descendants of this couple remained in the vicinity of Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. Daughter, Deborah, however, moved to Ohio with her husband, Joseph O. Durham sometime after the 1850 census was taken. Some of the grandchildren moved beyond the New Jersey borders to Kansas, Vermont and California.

Collateral surnames include Berrien, Douglas, Durham, Ent, Hawk, Larison, Rorer, Smith and Tomlinson.

There are two ways to search this cite. You can go to the Master Index listed on the menu above and click on a name of interest. This will link you to the person page containing what is known about this individual. From the person page you will find links to spouses, parents and children. You can then pursue ancestors or descendants of this individual. The second way to enter this site is to go to the Charts heading on the  menu above which will provide a visual representation of the relationships between family members. Click on the person of interest and you will be taken to that person's page. Note that the superscript "G" is a link to Google Maps showing the location of the place mentioned. A superscript numeral will take your to the source for the information contained in the sentence.

A list of descendants should be more than names, dates and places. What makes these people come alive are photographs and stories telling us more about the interests and personalities of these people. If you have information, anecdotes, photographs or corrections that you would like to contribute to this website, please contact me at the compiler link at the bottom of this page. I will be happy to attribute the contribution of information to you.

If you wonder if this Crum family might be your Crum family, consider joining the DNA study of males with the surname of Crum, Crom, Krom or Krum at www.familytreedna.com/public/CrumDNA. I am the volunteer co-ordinator of this project, the goal of which is to define distinct Crum families and put members in touch with one another so they can share their genealogical research. I would like to involve descendants of the Crum families of Ulster County, NY, Rockland County, NY, and Monocacy, MD, which are the places of origin for many Crum families in the United States. Please contact me if you would like more information.
